7-Zip is able to open some MSI files, allowing access to the meta-files within along with the main contents. Some Microsoft CAB (LZXcompression) and NSIS (LZMA) installer formats can be opened. Similarly, some Microsoft executable programs (.EXEs) which are self-extracting archives or otherwise contain archived content (e.g., some setup files) may be opened as archives.

When compressing ZIP or gzip files, 7-Zip uses its own DEFLATE encoder, which may achieve higher compression, but at lower speed, than the more common zlib DEFLATE implementation. The 7-Zip deflate encoder implementation is available separately as part of the AdvanceCOMP suite of tools.

The decompression engine for RAR archives was developed using source code of the unRAR program (which has a licensing restriction against creation of a RAR compressor).

7-Zip supports:

• The 256-bit AES cipher. Encryption can be enabled for both files and the 7z directory structure. When the directory structure is encrypted, users are required to supply a password to see the filenames contained within the archive. WinZip-developed zip file AES encryption standard is also available in 7-Zip to encrypt ZIP archives with AES 256-bit, but it does not offer filename encryption as in 7z archives.^[10]
• Volumes of dynamically variable sizes, allowing use for backups on removable media such as writable CDs and DVDs.
• Usability as a basic orthodox file manager when used in 2-panel mode.
• Multiple-core CPU threading settings can be configured.
• The ability to attempt to open EXE files as archives, allowing the decompression of data from inside many "Setup" or "Installer" or "Extract" type programs without having to launch them.
• The ability to unpack archives with corrupted filenames, renaming the files as required.
• The ability to create self-extracting single- (but not multi-) volume archives.
• Command-line interface.

PESAWAT PRODUKSI INDONESIA GENERASI KEDUA

ALDI-Sejak 10 tahun yang lalu, pengembangan pesawat tanpa awak sudah dilakukan oleh Badan Pengkajian dan Penerapan Teknologi (BPPT) dan Lembaga Penerbangan dan Antariksa Nasional (Lapan). Memasuki tahun ini, riset penerbangan di Lapan sendiri sudah tahap pembuatan prototipe pesawat tanpa awak. Pesawat ini nantinya dapat digunakan untuk tujuan pemantauan kondisi bencana seperti, bencana alam, kebakaran hutan, serta pemetaan rupa bumi. Selain lembaga-lembaga tersebut di atas, pengembangan pesawat tanpa awak ini juga melibatkan Direktorat Jenderal perhubungan Udara Kementerian Perhubungan. Kerjasama antara pihak-pihak terkait sudah disepakati akhir bulan April lalu.

Beberapa pesawat tanpa awak pun sudah berhasil dikembangkan di Indonesia, seperti pesawat intai tanpa awak yang disebut Lapan SUAV-01 yang digunakan untuk tujuan pemantauan. Pesawat ini telah diuji coba untuk memotret kondisi Gunung Merapi pada ketinggian 2000 meter. Selain pesawat tersebut ada juga pesawatBPPT01A-200-PA7 yang diberi nama “Wulung” yang akan diproduksi berjumlah 3 unit untuk memenuhi kebutuhan kementrian Pertahanan. Pesawat tanpa awak ini akan digunakan untuk pengawasan transportasi, SAR, penelitian atmosfer, dan pengamatan vegetasi daerah kritis. Pengembangan pesawat ringan tanpa awak juga dilakukan oleh beberapa perguruan tinggi, seperti UGM, ITB, dan ITS.

Rancangan dari Fakultas Teknik UGM misalnya, mengembangkan UAV model Quadcopter. Pesawat yang berjenis helikopter ini mempunyai 4 baling-baling yang bisa terbang kesegala arah bergerak secara horizontal dan vertikal dan dapat menjangkau ke berbagai sudut. Pesawat UAV UGM telah melakukan ujicoba memantau Candi Borobudur pasca erupsi Gunung Merapi tahun 2010. Dibekali sistem pemodelan citra berbasis fotogrametri, pesawat ini mampu mengambil gambar objek dengan resolusi 10 sampai 30 cm. Untuk pemotretan seluruh area Candi Borobudur, cukup dengan 4 sampai 6 foto.

Akhirnya setelah menghasilkan prototipe pesawat nirawak, lapan melangkah lebih maju dengan mengembangkan pesawat ringan  generasi kedua yang disebut Lapan Surveillance Aircraft (LSA). Pesawat ini nantinya dapat mengangkut 2 awak. Menurut Kepala Pusat Teknologi Penerbangan Lapan, Rika Andiarti, LSA nantinya akan digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data verifikasi dan validasi data satelit. LSA sangat efisien, karena dapat memantau lebih cepat ketimbang dengan satelit, yang harus menunggu hasil data sekitar 16 hari. Dalam pengembangan pesawat LSA, lapan bekerjasama dengan Universitas Teknik Berlin.
